Adaptahaus is entirely flexible in the arrangement of the room layouts; no internal walls are structural. During the life time of the house it can be reconfigured to suit changing family circumstances. This is achieved by an accessible void in which tail ends of all services can be connected together – then to be covered over, for subsequent easy access, by attractive duct covers.

Although the sustainable approach isn’t unique it is of an unusually high standard. The house is designed to conform to level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and we’re aiming to achieve a Passiv Haus standard - a specific construction standard for buildings which have excellent comfort conditions in both winter and summer – and/or level 6 of CSH; this is defined as an aspirational standard based on zero carbon emissions for the dwelling and high performance across all environmental categories.
